4th Citroen C6 meeting in Portugal

What a great adventure again! We started our journey very early in the morning, at about 2 a.m. The roads were mostly empty. The GPS took us through Madrid, under the many tunnels. We arrived on time, basically the first to be there, but we weren’t sure if we were supposed to wait outside the Quinta de Santa Maria – Ribeiro Santo – Cabanas de Viriato or just go in, so we went for a coffee at a nearby petrol station. Once the other “first guest” arrived, we also headed to the Quinta. Soon after, all the other C5s and C6s arrived.

We had a guided tour and a wine tasting with some lovely local sausages (sadly, I didn’t make any photos of this). Afterward, we headed to the hotel.

The hotel and some of the C5 and C6

There were other Citroenistas present! Unrelated to us:

After lunch, we went to a lovely guided tour in Viseu with a fellow C6 enthusiast. We felt like very important French people, sitting in a brand-new-looking Citroen C6. It is the best-condition C6 I have ever seen and it was an honor to travel in it.

Here are some photos I took during the short visit to Viseu

After dinner there was a short  official gathering in a conference room, where we earned the “Traveling the most km in a C6” title (I think once more lol) and  later we headed to sleep, because we were a up for over 38h at this point.

After a good sleep, the next day visited the  Mina Urgeiriça, had some interesting conversations about  Citroens, in general then C5, C6 or Xantias, had lunch and slowly prepared for the trip back.

We decided it was time to start the journey back so we said good buy to our fellow C5-C6 enthusiasts and headed back home.

We decided to ditch all the suggestions of the GPS, and go toward Moraleja. We´ve been on this road before, knew what to expect. It´s a very nice road, especially returning from Portugal.  Goes from Ciudad Rodrigo toward Moraleja, Cáceres trough the Puerto de Perales climb.  We did it once with Maudette the other direction, and while the road is lovely, it can happen to be stuck between a slow moving vehicle or bikers, and the car would not have enough cooling function. The climb is very steep. We prefer the highway on the “other side” for this in the hottest summer days.  The reason behind this route choice was to avoid the possibly very busy roads of Madrid on Sunday night. The traffic was quite intense on the other side, and in the region that was getting closer to Madrid, but after we turned toward Toledo, everything was very calm on our side.

Arrived home after midnight after a total of 1754 flawless kilometers.

Overall a very good meeting once again.  See you in 2026!

P.S. we took home this little guy, now called Saponin…

#Saponin the frog happily travelled from #portugal #viseu to #spain. Hopefully #animalcontrol and #wildlifeprotection won’t see this post ever. Not sure what is the punishment for relocating frogs between two #eu countries, but we smuggled him in, no papers, no mandatory vaccines

Saponin had a great ride, was hidden in a secret compartment in the #CitroenC6 and soon will join his big sister, Daffodil the big yellow frog. Right now Saponin is in quarantine, in the #C6… A liter of water should be enough… Which we spilled it in the car(mind you accidentally…), because sometimes these things happen in #adventures.”  I quoted myself from instagram, because I am to lazy to write it again…
